Discription:
The SPORT232 is a low cost, high performance Data Acquisition and Control Board which easily connects to any computer through the RS232 (serial communication) port. This industrial grade board is ideal for system integrators or OEM use in the factory or laboratory or out in the field.
Able to interface with most analog sensors such as thermocouples, thermistors, pressure transducers, or conductivity, pH, light, and flow meters, this product provides the capability to feed up to 11 channels of analog data from the real world to any computer for processing, display and analysis. The SPORT232 can also send analog signals out to relays, electro valves and other electrical devices or digital signals for alarm or control applications.
The SPORT232 comes with a 10 or 12 bit analog to digital converter. Interfacing analog devices to the SPORT232 is made even easier with signal conditioning for up to four channels. These channels allow the reading of signals as low as 100mV or as high as 5VDC - encompassing a wide range of analog devices. An automatic sampling timing generator provides fast data acquisition.
The SPORT232 offers more than just data acquisition and control capabilities. Embedded functions in the on-board WiZ232 micro controller provide even greater versatility. These functions include the measurement of period, resistance and capacitance, the generation of a PWM signal, and sophisticated stepper motor control.
These embedded features greatly expand the many uses for the SPORT232 board. In addition to the data acquisition and control functions, a small sampling of these uses include:
- Controlling DC and Stepper motors with feedback capabilities (using a shaft encoder).
- Reading remote sensors that use voltage to frequency conversion through the period measurement feature.
- RC servo control using the PWM and pulse generator.
Signal analysis and processing such as FFT and digital filters through the use of the sampling timing generator.
Although intelligence is provided to the SPORT232 through the WiZ232 micro controller, no micro controller programming skills are required to create custom applications. Applications can be developed and tested using the large set of simple yet powerful commands provided or using any high level programming language such as Visual Basic, Q Basic, C/C++, Visual C++, Pascal, Delphi etc. The SPORT232 is designed to work under most operating systems including Unix, DOS, Windows 9x, and Windows NT.
